Your Involvement in Restoring the Magic

The allure of bringing back a nostalgic look and feel to a modern city is great. The need and search for PCC trolleys and other antique streetcars has been so dramatic that competing cities often enter bidding contests to purchase remaining streetcars in whatever conditions they may be in.

Vintage Trolleys create an opportunity for community involvement that integrates various factors in reestablishing the luster and history of these great machines. The statement created by a Vintage Trolley has been proven and supported by various communities to the point where Vintage trolleys are the primary mode of transportation in a vast number of cities.

In December of 2005, three post-war PCC's were purchased from a train yard in Lake Tahoe and delivered to the MTS transit yard. For San Diegans, the arrival of three vintage trolleys is a powerful reminder of our deep connection to our past. It is consistent with what makes our community unique.

Once restored, the trolleys will be the vanguard of a dramatic new urban experience in San Diego.

Restoration costs for each car are estimated at $425,000, bringing the total goal to $1,275,000. It is obvious that a project of this magnitude does not happen without the emotional and financial investment of the community.   The inserts that are included within this brochure illustrate the considerable restoration work being undertaken by San Diego Vintage Trolleys and the many ways that you can be involved in Restoring The Magic.

Ultimately, we will require the support, both morally and financially, of San Diegans from all walks of life. We are seeking the combined support of thousands of our city and county residents in order to succeed. We hope that you will be among them.
